Kathy Gook Named to US Kids Golf Top 50 Junior Teachers ListJanuary 6, 2012
Kathy Gook of Richmond, BC has been named, for the first time, as one of US Kids Golf Top 50 Junior Teachers. Kathy, the Director of School Golf with British Columbia Golf and organizer of the Playground to Fairway program (P2F), is the only Canadian recipient of the award for 2011.
On an annual basis, US Kids Golf announces its Top 50 Kids Teachers as a way of thanking them for their tireless devotion to the development of junior golf and the service they provide to the youth of their communities.
Kathy joins an elite list of professionals who are being honoured this year. All of the professionals being honoured have given back to the game and their communities in some capacity, Kathy doing so through numerous ventures, which include the P2F program and the organization of summer youth programs at “The Farm” in her hometown of Quesnel, BC.
The Playground to Fairway program is a cooperative effort between British Columbia Golf and its partners that introduces basic golf skills to school-aged children through BC in a simple, safe and entertaining way. In 2011 alone, the program traveled to 141 schools in 40 different communities throughout British Columbia. Through this hard work, Kathy helped introduce the game of golf to 16,436 kids in British Columbia, some of which might never have been given that opportunity if it weren’t for the program.
In addition to P2F, Kathy remains involved in her native community of Quesnel, BC by running summer golf camps on her property, more commonly known as “The Farm”. Here, Kathy is able to give back to her local community and continue to be an advocate for the game of golf.
British Columbia Golf would like to send its utmost appreciation to Kathy for her excellent dedication to the game of golf and her passion for teaching the golfers of tomorrow. We are extremely proud and lucky to have Kathy as a member of our team and an ambassador for junior golf on the international stage. Way to go Kathy!
