BROOKE HENDERSON WINS JUNIOR AND JUVENILE TITLES AT THE 2012 ROYALE CUP CANADIAN JUNIOR GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIP
Henderson holds a wire-to-wire lead to win by four shots
Calgary, Alta. (Golf Canada) – Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ont. has won the 2012 Royale Cup Canadian Junior Girls Championship at River Spirit Golf Club in Calgary, Alta.
Henderson, 14, led by six shots going into the final round of competition, and with a 1-under par 71 on the day thanks to four birdies and three bogeys, she won by four shots over Brogan McKinnon, 17, of Mississauga, Ont. With under-par rounds throughout the tournament, Henderson ended up at 13-under par 275.
“I’m really happy I was able to shoot four rounds under par and I come away with the win, it’s awesome. It was just a great week, a great course, and it was just a lot of fun,” said Henderson.
With a 3-under par 69 on the day, McKinnon made a charge for top spot, but in the end she finished in second place at 9-under par 275.
“I was trying to make [my lead] even bigger but Brogan wouldn’t let me,” said Henderson. “A couple of times today she was really close and I kept trying to make more putts but she was right on my tail.”
In third place, Henderson’s Team Canada teammate Jisoo Keel, 16, of Coquitlam, B.C. finished at 1-over par 289, while fellow Team Canada member Taylor Kim, 17, of Surrey, B.C. ended up in fourth position at 4-over par 292.
Earlier in the week, Henderson was part of the winning Inter-provincial Division Team as a member of Team Ontario. Due to her age, she also wins Royale Cup Canadian Junior Girls Juvenile Division (17 years and under) title. Keel came in second in the that division, while Naomi Ko, 14, of Victoria, B.C. finished in third at 16-over par 304.
In June of this year, Henderson became the youngest known golfer to win a professional golf event at the Quebec stop of the CN Canadian Women’s Tour, and later this year she will compete at the CN Canadian Women’s Open at Vancouver Golf Club in Coquitlam, B.C.
“I’m really looking forward to playing with professionals and to see how I end up. Maybe, hopefully, I’ll make the cut,” said Henderson of her upcoming CN Canadian Women’s Open experience.
With this Royale Cup Canadian Junior Girls Championship win, Henderson earns an exemption into to the 2013 Royale Cup Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship, as well as each of the 2013 CN Canadian Women’s Tour events.

Calgary, Alta. (Golf Canada) – Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ont. continues to lead the 2012 Royale Cup Canadian Junior Girls Championship after the third round of competition at River Spirit Golf Club in Calgary, Alta.
First and second round leader Henderson, 14, carded a 3-under par 69 on the day to maintain her lead going into the final round. Despite cold temperatures and rain, Henderson had no bogeys and three birdies. She now leads by six shots at 12-under par 204.
“I just tried to follow the plan that [my coaches and I] made out and hit fairways and hit greens,” said Henderson. “I’m just going to stick to my game plan and just try to post a low round tomorrow.”
Team Canada member Henderson became the youngest known golfer to win a professional golf event earlier this season at the Quebec stop of the CN Canadian Women’s Tour, and her résumé also includes wins at the Ontario Junior Girls’ Championship and CN Future Links Ontario Championship. At last year`s Royale Cup Canadian Junior Girls Championship, Henderson finished in sixth position.
Brogan McKinnon, 17, of Mississauga, Ont. sits in second position for the third consecutive day after scoring a 2-over par 74 on the day. Her third round was up-and-down, with a double bogey on Hole No. 8 followed by an eagle Hole No. 9. She will now go into the final round of the championship at 6-under par 210.
In a tie for third position at 1-under par 215 are Team Canada teammates Taylor Kim, 17, of Surrey, B.C. and Jisoo Keel, 16, of Coquitlam, B.C., who both had four bogeys today. Kim also had four birdies while Keel had three.

Round Two Recap
TEAM ONTARIO IS VICTORIOUS AT THE 2012 ROYALE CUP CANADIAN JUNIOR GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIP
Team BC finishes second; Henderson and Brogan McKinnon each shoot 67 to tie course record; Keel, Kim and Yoo sit third, fourth and fifth overall
Calgary, Alta. (Golf Canada) – Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ont., led Team Ontario to victory today as she continues to lead the 2012 Royale Cup Canadian Junior Girls Championship after the second round of competition at River Spirit Golf Club in Calgary, Alta.
Henderson, 14, carded a 5-under par 67 on the day to maintain her lead from the first round and tie the competitive course record at River Spirit Golf Club. With two birdies and a bogey on the front nine, Henderson rallied on the final four holes, starting with an eagle at Hole No. 15. Her tournament total now sits at 9-under par 135.
“It was a little bit rough off the start but in the last five holes I think I was 5 or 4-under, so I was able to turn it on. I was hitting it pretty well all day but putts just weren’t falling,” said Henderson.
“I think the eagle on the short Par 4 really helped because it got my momentum going and I was able to come in with a few birdies.”
Henderson now sits a single shot ahead of Brogan McKinnon, 17, of Mississauga, Ont., who also tied the course record with a 5-under par 67 in the second round. Thanks to six birdies on the day, McKinnon is now at 8-under par 136 for the tournament so far.
“I got off to a really good start, I was 4-under on the front, but I missed a three-footer on [Hole No.] 10 for birdie and kind of struggled a bit for the next few holes, but then I made birdies on [Holes] 15 and 16… so it was good to come back and get better momentum going into tomorrow,” said McKinnon.
Team Canada’s Jisoo Keel, 16, of Coquitlam, B.C. is currently in third position at 2-under par 142, while her Team Canada teammate Taylor Kim, 17, of Surrey, B.C. sits in fourth place at 1-under par 143.
Henderson also leads the Juvenile Division (under 17 years old), and thanks to a successful long birdie putt on Hole No. 18, she helped force a playoff between Team Ontario and Team British Columbia in the Inter-provincial Team Division.
Team Ontario consists of Henderson, Jenna Hague, 18, of Burlington, Ont., and Stephanie Tucker, 18, of Orangeville, Ont., while Team British Columbia is made up of Team Canada members Keel, Kim, and Anica Yoo, 18, of Coquitlam, B.C. In the end, Team Ontario came out on top after the first playoff hole to win the division at 3-under par 285.
