Club Membership
Types of British Columbia Golf Member Clubs
Member Club
A Member Club shall mean a club which owns or leases a golf course and maintains on a regular and continuing basis a junior, men’s, and women’s membership and golf committees for the benefit of the members of such club, which has been approved by the Board for membership in accordance with the By-Laws.
Member Course
A Member Course shall mean a golf course, which has been approved by the Board for membership in accordance with the By-Laws.
Category 1
A golf course which is operated for the convenience of the public and maintains on a regular or continuing basis a junior, women’s, and a men’s membership or golf committee for the benefit of its members.
A Category 1 club has been formed by members who pay annual dues at a private or semi-private golf course to support club operating expenses with the intent of those members playing regularly on that course. Each individual member must pay to the club annual dues required by British Columbia Golf and Golf Canada. By reason of its membership, the club undertakes to remit these dues promptly to those associations. British Columbia Golf and Golf Canada then will issue membership cards to the golf club. A golf club not remitting the dues for each individual member of that club will have its membership suspended.
Category 2
A golf course which is operated for the convenience of guests or the public and does not maintain on a regular or continuing basis a junior, women’s, and a men’s membership or golf committee for the benefit of its members.
Membership is available for public golf facilities that do not have any Category 1 or Public Players Club members. While such a facility may have one or more Public Player (“public” or green fee) golf clubs operating on its premises, the facility itself must become a member of British Columbia Golf and Golf Canada in order to avail itself of the various programs and services of British Columbia Golf/Golf Canada. A facility membership does not permit the distribution of British Columbia Golf/Golf Canada membership cards by the owners or operators of such a facility.
Member Group
A Member Group shall mean a group of at least 15 individuals which has become organized for the purpose of playing golf together, without real estate, which has a name and an organization document acceptable to the Board and which has been approved by the Board for membership in accordance with the By-Laws.
