Rain Postpones Opening Round Of Canadian Women’s Amateur

Heavy rainfall and unplayable course conditions forced the postponement of the first round of the 2015 Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship at Riverside Country Club in Saskatoon, SK.
The first round of play will begin on July 29 at 7 a.m. CST with revised tee times. Round two will also see a revised draw and is slated to begin following the completion of the first round. Pairings for rounds one and two will remain the same as the original groupings.
British Columbia has a large contingent of golfers playing in Saskatoon, including the provincial team of BC Women’s Amateur champion Michelle Kim, her sister and runner-up Taylor Kim and third-place finisher Gloria Choi.
Team Canada Development Team members Alisha Lau and Naomi Ko are also in the field, with Ko coming off a quarterfinal finish at the U.S. Junior Girls in Tulsa last week. The winner of that tournament, South Korea’s Eun-Jeong Seong, is also in the field, along with a star-studded list of American juniors.
Rinko Mitsunaga and Mika Liu, who combined to win the inaugural USGA Four-Ball at Pacific Dunes in Bandon, OR in May, are also in the field. The two other Team Canada Development Squad members, Jaclyn Lee and Grace St-Germain, are in the field as well.
“Unfortunately weather did not cooperate with the first round of play,” said tournament director Mary Beth McKenna. “However the weather forecast is looking good for the remainder of the week and we are confident that we will be able to finish the 72-hole national competition.”
In addition to the title of 2015 Canadian Women’s Amateur Champion, the field of 105 Canadian and International players will also be gplaying for a prized exemption into the 2015 Canadian Pacific Women’s Open to be played at The Vancouver Golf Club in Coquitlam, B.C., and the 2015 U.S. Amateur Championship at Portland Country Club.
