  • Competitions

British Columbia Golf manages and delivers 12 Provincial Championships for different age groups with the considerable help of over 1,000 volunteers in different regions of the Province.  Zone Councils run many more events as qualifers for Provincial events, and as additional competitions.

In addition, British Columbia Golf assists with other events at the national (through Golf Canada) and regional (with the PNGA) level.  British Columbia Golf also assists with the BC Games competitions and with the Special Olympics.

Various age groups competing in national events represent Team BC.  Teams are supported with additonal coaching and expenses.

  • Player Development

Long Term Player Development (LTPD) has been adopted by Golf Canada in partnership with the Canadian Professional Golfers’ Association to maximize a participant’s potential and involvement in our sport.

LTPD aims to define optimal training, competition and recovery throughout an athlete’s career to enable him/her to reach his/her full potential in golf and as an athlete. Tailoring a child’s sports development program to suit basic principles of growth and maturation, especially during the early years of their development, enables him/her to reach full potential and Increase lifelong participation in golf and other physical activities.

  • Rules, Ratings and Handicaps

British Columbia Golf administers the Rules of Golf as developed by the world governing bodies of golf and administered in Canada by Golf Canada. We offer workshops, publications and on-the-job training to volunteers who are interested in assisting with tournaments and events around British Columbia.

British Columbia Golf and Golf Canada establish and maintain a uniform handicap system for golf clubs in Canada. The purpose of the handicap system is to make the game of golf more enjoyable for golfers by providing a means of measuring one’s performance and progress and to enable golfers of differing abilities to compete on an equitable basis.

The relative difficulty of a golf course is determined by British Columbia Golf using the Golf Canada Course and Slope Rating System. Specially trained Course Rating Teams evaluate the difficulty of a golf course based on such variables as length and a number of obstacle factors (e.g. topography, bunkers, water hazards, severity of rough, etc).
