What makes a young, successful athlete chose to pursue one sport over another? In Megan Osland’s case, it was practical foresight.

Already having a great deal of success at the provincial level, Osland was on pace to compete at a high-level in hockey, until she became increasingly involved in golf, the later sport won her over. She understood and appreciated, even at a young age, the sustainability of the sport of golf.

RICHMOND, BC (British Columbia Golf) – Kelowna’s Rutland Elementary School played host to one of British Columbia Golf’s Playground to Fairway School Golf Coach Certification workshops on April 10-11.

The three-and-a-half-hour long workshop was a success, attracting six new participants to the program that included recreation leaders, golf professionals, city staff and volunteers.

Ask Alison Murdoch what it is she likes about playing golf and her answer is so simple, and so obvious, it may surprise you.

The four-time Canadian Senior Women’s Champion described a survey she once took part in that asked women to check off, from a list, what it was they liked about playing golf. The final possible answer: “playing golf”.

Murdoch ticked the last box.

Betty Clark and George Faithfull were honoured over the weekend with the Distinguished Service Award. The two devoted volunteers were acknowledged with the distinction for their hard work and significant volunteer contributions to British Columbia Golf.

British Columbia Golf has partnered with Inside Golf publications to develop a new website and new newsletter format that will help us improve our communications capability with our members and other interested golfers. We have been struggling with older systems that limit our capabilities and it was time to refresh our look and feel, and how we communicate with our members.

Adam Svensson made history at Barry University earlier in March, winning his fifth tournament of the season at the Bobcat Invitational in Eatonton, Georgia.

A.J. Ewart, a 14-year-old from Coquitlam, claimed victory at the Future Collegians World Tour event hosted by the Sandpiper GC in Santa Barbara, CA from February 15-16.

The Pitt Meadows Golf Club is celebrating their 50th anniversary this year and it's sure to be a special celebration indeed.

Over the last few years a dedicated and very talented group of women have represented Canada in a way we can all be proud of both with their excellent play and the manner in which they have carried themselves while wearing the Maple Leaf abroad. A fairly regular member of this most worthy contingent has also taken the time to share some of her and her countrymates' experiences as they competed in the Irish and British Senior Women's Championships. They may have also taken in the odd historic site and partaken of a pint or two along the way. They are Canadian after all. - ed.
