Our Top Three Non-Golf "Golfy" Things You Can Do On Maui

If you are with someone who is not a golfer and want to do some related activities, here are our top three...

Walk The "Old" Village Course At Kapalua

Everyone should do the amazing Coastal Walk here, but it is not the only walk at Kapalua. Some may not not be aware that there used to be a third course at Kapalua called the Village. It closed in 2007 but the power cart trail is still there and offers some great walks.

I had the opportunity to play this course almost 20 years ago and it was unique... lush and almost jungle-like. As you walk, you may be able to see the routing of many holes of this course that many locals remember fondly. There are some stunning views and a hidden lake awaits those who venture to the top of the course.

The Sunset Golf Cart Tour On Wailea's Blue Course

Their website calls this "Golf for the Eyes, No Clubs Needed." But it is much more than that... Think of a Disneyland ride with the best views on Maui across to the offshore islands of Lanai, Molokini and Kaho'olawe.

Starting around 1.5 hours before sunset, couples can grab a bottle of wine (chardonnay or pinot noir) or craft beer from the Maui Brewing Company, get the keys to a golf cart and tour the golf course routing timing your sojourn to arrive on the 17th hole as the sun starts to set.

Along the way, you can see swaths of Bougainvillea, manicured fairways and some of the most unique 150-yard markers in the world. We were lucky enough to see (from an appropriate distance), a mating pair of the endangered state bird, the Nee-nee. In this case, they also had a chick.

This is a great way to introduce someone to golf and also get a sense of the course if you are planning to play it later on. Reservations are required and must be made at least 24 hours in advance.

Call the Wailea Blue Course for more information at 808-879-2530.

FootGolf At Ka'anapali

Every day on the Kai course, Ka'anapali offers a 9-hole FootGolf layout where you combine soccer and golf - great for all ages and skill levels. Kick times required in advance at 808.661.3691 for play between 4-6pm. You can even take a cart if you want. This is a great way to introduce someone to the golf course in a non-intimidating way.

FYI... They also offer a free introduction to golf where they can show you around the clubhouse, drive around the course to get you familiar and answer any questions you may have.

FootGolf Per Person (any age): $15 • Ball Rental: $5 each • Cart Rental (2 persons per cart): $30
