Three T'Birds Land As NAIA All-Americans

UBC's Stephanie Wong Became A Four-Time All-American With Her Selection To The 2015 NAIA Women's First Team

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced the 2015 NAIA Women’s Golf All-America teams, as selected by the NAIA-Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-America Committee.

A total of 30 student-athletes were honored, with 15 individuals being named to the first and second team. The UBC Thunderbirds Women's team had 3 players named along with one honourable mention.

National champion Northwood (Fla.) led all programs with four individuals on the All-America teams. The Seahawks were represented by Caroline Retabi (first team), Elsa Westin (first team), Rebecka Holmstrom (second team) and Sabrina Schloo (second team).

British Columbia, Oklahoma City and SCAD Savannah (Ga.) each had three golfers achieve All-America status, while five other programs had two individuals recognized.

Dalton State’s (Ga.) Julia McQuilken, the 2015 NAIA Women’s Golf National Championships individual medalist, headlined a pair of Roadrunners that were named All-Americans. McQuilken shot a national championship-best 298 (78-71-75-74) over 72 holes en route to the programs first-ever individual title.

Fourteen individuals are making at least their second All-America appearance. Stephanie Wong of British Columbia, who is a first-team honoree this season, is the only four-time All-American, having been a first team award winner in 2012, while listing on the second team in 2014 and 2013.

Brandon Miller of Northwood was named the 2015 NAIA Women’s Golf National Coach of the Year. This Seahawks ran away their second national championship in program history, carding an 8-over-par 296 to win the national crown by 22 strokes at Savannah Quarters Country Club in Pooler, Ga.

The other Lady Thunderbirds named were Kat Kennedy from Okotoks, Alberta (first team), Winnie Hyun of Langley, BC (second team) and Catherine Rousseau, from Quebec City (honourable mention).
