Surrey’s Michelle Kim continued her dream summer by winning the Canadian Junior Girls title at Deer Park Municipal Golf Club in Yorkton, SK.

Kim’s (-6) total of 286 was two strokes better than fellow Surrey golfer Hannah Lee, who battled a cold to still card a (-4) total of 288. Kim, a member of Golf Canada’s Development Squad, had earlier won the BC Women’s Amateur at Duncan Meadows and the BC Junior Girls at Cordova Bay.

Kim, Lee and Akari Hayashi also won the Inter-Provincial title at Deer Park after round 2, beating their nearest competitor by 20 strokes.

BC golfers also occupied the next three spots in the tournament with Team Canada Development Squad member Naomi Ko finishing third at (-2) 289, Kathrine Chan of Richmond at (-1) 291 and Coquitlam’s Euna Han finishing fifth at (+2) 294.

Kim, who will be entering the University of Idaho later this year, entered the final round with a four-stroke lead and Lee made a spirited run, with an eagle and four birdies getting her to within two strokes of Kim, but a closing bogey for Lee closed out her chances for victory.

Kim played a steady even par round of 73, with three bogeys and three birdies, parring her final six holes en route to victory. Kim won’t have much time to relax, as she’s off to Portland Golf Club next week to compete in the U.S. Women’s Amateur.

Vancouver’s Tiffany Kong finished in T6 with Kennedy Bodfield and Jessica Ip of Ontario.

Another Team Canada Development Squad member, Alisha Lau of Richmond, had to withdraw after the second round after a bout of food poisoning.
