Brooke Henderson Granted LPGA Tour Membership

For Immediate Release via LPGA Tour

Canada’s Brooke Henderson has been granted immediate status on the LPGA Tour. Read the statement by the tour’s commissioner Michael Whan and one from Brooke below.

LPGA Commissioner Michael Whan:

“After reviewing Brooke Henderson’s petition, I have granted her LPGA Tour membership beginning immediately. Brooke will compete out of Category 7 on the 2015 LPGA Priority List for the remainder of this season and also for the 2016 season. Category 7 is reserved for players who have won an official LPGA event as a non-member in the current or previous calendar year. Brooke truly earned her card, and we are looking forward to Brooke joining our Tour and our family. She is a special player and a wonderful person.”

Brooke Henderson:

“Since I was a little girl in Smiths Falls, Ontario, my dream has been to play on the LPGA Tour. I am so grateful for the opportunity to join the Tour as a member and play alongside so many of my role models. Realizing this dream here at the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open in my native Canada is even more amazing and I am so proud to be an ambassador for golf in this amazing country. I would like to thank Commissioner Mike Whan, the LPGA Tour staff, and all my sponsors, fans, friends and my amazing family for all the support I have received.”

Background:
LPGA policy states that any female 18 years of age or over shall be eligible to apply for membership in the Association’s Tournament Division; however, females between the ages of 15 and 18 may be granted special permission to apply for membership by petitioning directly to the Commissioner of the LPGA.

Henderson, who is currently ranked No. 17 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings, petitioned LPGA Commissioner Michael Whan following her win at the Cambia Portland Classic. Henderson will compete in this week’s Canadian Pacific Women’s Open as a member of the LPGA Tour and any money that she earns during the remainder of the 2015 LPGA Tour season will be considered official money. The remainder of the 2015 season will also be considered her rookie season on the LPGA Tour.

Per LPGA policy, there will be no further comment from the LPGA on Henderson’s petition.

Brooke Henderson will be available to media during her pre-tournament press conference today at 2:00 p.m. PST at the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open. The press conference will be live streamed online at http://www.mediaevents.ca/cp-womens-open and if you would like to have a question asked during the press conference, please email Matt Haas (matt.haas@lpga.com) with your name, media affiliation and your question.
