BC’s Du Toit Continues to Top Amateur Weekly Rankings

Austin James gained 20 spots in the world rankings after finishing in a tie for second at the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational. It was the No. 3 ranked amateur in Canada’s seventh straight Top-10 result and his third consecutive Top-5 showing. His 10-under 206 total was the third lowest in school history.

Alistair Docherty picked up 19 places in the world rankings after finishing runner-up at the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational, just three strokes behind the winner. The result moved the senior at Chico State up to No. 5 in the Canadian rankings. The New Brunswick native, currently the top-ranked Division II golfer, was also one of 10 collegiate golfers selected to represent the U.S. in the 2016 Palmer Cup – the collegiate version of the Ryder Cup.

Stuart Macdonald made the biggest gain among the Top-10, picking up 50 spots in the world rankings after finishing in a tie for fifth at the Boilermaker Invitational. It was his third career Top-5 result – two of which have come at this event.

There was some significant movement outside the Top-10 with Tony Gil leading the way, picking up 167 spots in the world rankings after a win at the Terra Cotta Invitational – an event that features many of the world’s top amateurs. Gil, who plans to attend the University of Houston, rallied from two strokes back with three holes remaining to secure the victory. The result moved the Golf Canada Development Squad member from No.16 up to No. 11.

Biggest move: Brent Wilson gained 834 spots in the world rankings following his performance at the Campeonato Internacional de Aficionados Copa Carlos Raffo in Peru.

Josée Doyon gained 18 places in the world rankings and moved back into the Top-100 in the world following a runner-up finish at the Lady Buckeye Invitational. It was the third Top-5 result this season for the reigning Quebec Women’s Amateur champion, who came within one stroke of repeating as medalist at the event. Kent State claimed the team title with Doyon joined by teammate and No. 2 ranked Canadian Taylor Kim, who finished in a tie for sixth.

Naomi Ko finished in a tie for fifth at the ACC Championship to pick up 24 spots in the world rankings, moving past Michelle Kim into No. 5 in the Canadian rankings. It was the first Top-5 result of the season for the freshman from Victoria, B.C.

Top ranked Canadian Maddie Szeryk maintained her No. 32 world ranking after finishing seventh at the SEC Championship, her second consecutive Top-10 result at the championship.

Biggest Move: Alix Kong again made the biggest move of the week, picking up 121 world ranking spots after finishing in a tie for 20th at the Lady Buckeye Invitational. It was the second straight Top-20 result for the sophomore from West Vancouver.

Graham DeLaet continued his solid play of late, finishing in a tie for 14th at the RBC Heritage. It was his third Top-15 result in his last five tournaments. The result was worth 4.16 world ranking points – his fifth-straight points-paying finish – which gives the Weyburn, Sask., native 50 spots in the world rankings over that span.

Adam Hadwin finished in a tie for 30th at the RBC Heritage. The result was worth 2.31 world ranking points for the Abbotsford, B.C., golfer, who has picked up points in two of his last three tournaments.

Other notable results: No.2 David Hearn missed the cut at the RBC Heritage, while No. 4 Nick Taylor made the cut, but did not finish. Mike Weir withdrew from the tournament after an opening-round 78. He has withdrawn or missed the cut in each of his last 24 tournaments. Corey Conners finished tied for 22nd at PGA Tour LatinoAmérica Tour event in Argentina.

Augusta James made the biggest gain among the Top-10, picking up 34 spots in the world rankings after finishing in a tie for fourth at the Symetra Tour’s Chico Patty’s Berg Memorial in Florida. This was the same event James won a year ago after turning pro. The result was her second Top-10 finish in three starts and moved the Bath, Ont., golfer up to No. 3 in the Canadian rankings.

Rebecca Lee-Bentham, a former Canadian No. 1, picked up 28 spots in the world rankings after finishing in a tie for 8th at the same Symetra Tour event, helping move the Toronto golfer up to No. 8 in the Canadian rankings. It was also her second straight Top-10 result in three starts.

No. 7 Jessica Wallace picked up nine spots in the world rankings after also tying for eighth in Florida. It was her second Top-10 result of the Symetra Tour season in three starts. No. 9 Sara-Maude Juneau gained 11 spots in the world rankings after finishing in a tie for 16th.

Four-time LPGA Tour winner Lorie Kane, who sits 10th in the Canadian rankings, captured the Legends Tour event which was conducted alongside the Symetra Tour tournament.

Brooke Henderson extended her string of Top-10 finishes this season, finishing in a tie for 10th at the LPGA’s LOTTE Championship. It was her seventh straight Top-10 result, helping the Smiths Falls, Ont., golfer retain her No. 7 world ranking.

Other Notable Results: No. 6 Sue Kim finished tied for 28th at the Chico Patty’s Berg Memorial, while Brittany Marchand finished in a tie for 24th to make her debut at No. 18 in the Canadian rankings.
