Five-way Tie At The Top After First Round of B.C. Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship, Jamie Oleksiew Leads Women’s Mid-Am By One

HARRISON MILLS — Sandpiper Golf Course proved to be a stern test in Tuesday’s opening round of the B.C. Women’s and Men’s Mid-Amateur and Mid-Master Championships.

The scenic layout did not yield a single score under par. On the men’s side, Alex Cartwright of Victoria, Andy Robb of Vancouver, Mike Aizawa of Richmond, Gary Pike of Victoria and Cory Hilditch of Penticton all fired even-par 72s to share the lead in the Mid-Amateur division for players aged 25 and over.

Pike has a one-shot lead over Craig Doell of Victoria and Edward Bellrose of Campbell River in the Mid-Master division for players aged 40 and older.

Surrey’s Jamie Oleksiew leads the women’s Mid-Am after opening with a six-over 78. She has a one-shot lead over Tina Papatolis of Issaquah, Wash.

Shelly Stouffer of Nanoose Bay and Emery Bardock of Chilliwack are third at nine-over. Defending champion Nonie Marler of Vancouver is sixth after opening with an 83.

Papatolis leads Stouffer by two shots in the Mid-Master division.
