Jenny Kwon, Eric Joo Lead Heading Into Final Round Of B.C. Juvenile Girls & Boys Championships

VICTORIA — Vancouver’s Jenny Kwon still leads, but things have have tightened up considerably at the B.C. Juvenile Girls Championship at Highland Pacific Golf Course.

Kwon, a 14-year-old who plays out of Beach Grove Golf Club in Tsawwassen, began Wednesday’s second round with a five-shot lead. Her lead is now a single shot heading into Thursday’s final round of the 54-hole championship for players aged 16 and under.

Kwon shot a three-over 74 Wednesday and is two-over through two rounds. That is one shot better than Elsu Wu of Maple Ridge, who shot the day’s best score, a one-under 70. West Vancouver’s Grace Aoting Yao is third at six-over after her 73 on Wednesday.

The Juvenile Boys Championship is also being contested at Highland Pacific. Eric Joo of Coquitlam and Austin Krahn of Christina Lake have separated themselves from the rest of the field. Joo, a 16-year-old who plays out of Meadow Gardens Golf Course in Pitt Meadows, fired a five-under 66 Wednesday.

His two-round total of five-under par has him one stroke ahead of Krahn, who shot a two-under 68. Manpreet Lalh of Nanaimo and Milan Sanga of Victoria are tied for third at two-over par.

The boys’ field was cut to the low 38 players and ties for Thursday’s final round, while the girls’ field was cut to the top 13 and ties.
