2015 Western Canada Summer Games Selection Camp

The 2015 Western Canada Summer Games will be hosted in Wood Buffalo, Alberta, from August 12-16th for the sport of golf.
The Western Canada Summer Games brings together athletes from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Yukon, NWT and Nunavut.
This event is a premier multi-sport competition that hosts high-performance athletes, trained coaches, certified officials, PSO leaders and many volunteers in a competitive, but friendly environment.
The Games were established in 1975 to provide development opportunities for amateur athletes progressing to national and international level competitions. The Western Canada Summer Games is a building block for BC Golf players who are 16 and under (as of August 16th, 2015) on the pathway to the Canada Summer Games in 2017.
This is the second time the sport of golf will be taking place in the Games. In the inaugural event, lead by Coach Jody Jackson, the team swept all the medals in both team and individual play. However, there promises to be a pushback from our westerly provinces/territories, for which our BC Team leaders are preparing for.

The WCSG Selection Process started at the 2014 High-Performance Camp in October. Twenty-Four players were taken through post-season assessments, training and education, then provided individual data and resources to put together an off-season training program.
At present, we are moving to the second stage of our selection process with the 2015 Western Canada Summer Games Selection Camp, taking place Saturday February 28th and Sunday March 1st at Fortius Sport & Health, Riverway GC and Burnaby Mountain GC.
If you are an eligible junior golfer, as per details outlined on our live registration, we encourage you to sign-up for an opportunity to represent BC at the Games.

Summary of 2015 WCSG Selection Criteria includes:
• Review of participation in two High Performance BC Golf Training Camps: - October 18-19, 2014 at Northview GC - February 28-March1 at Fortius, Riverway GC and Burnaby Mountain GC
• 2014 Performance Results - Provincial and National Junior Girls/ Boys Championships, inclusive of BC Bantam and BC Juvenile will be considered
• 2015 Pre-season tournament Schedule inclusive of: - CJGA Western Classic, March 7-9, Northview GCC OR MJT Season Opener, UBC and Vancouver GC - CJGA BC Junior Open, UBC, March 28-29 (or approved equivalent event) - MJT Kikkor Classic, Morgan Creek GC, Apri11-12th (or approved equivalent event)
• Previous Provincial or National Team experience an asset • Provincial Coaches' Recommendations Final Team announcement will be done mid-April 2015, prior to the CN Future Links Pacific via a decision made by a BC Golf Western Canada Games Selection Committee.
