If there is one thing golfers don't like, it is arriving at a course to find the greens have been recently aerated. But most golfers will grudgingly accept the necessity.

That is not the case at Pheasant Glen, a course well known for good manicure and smooth putting surfaces... good enough to co-host the BC Amateur in 2018.

When Dale Jackson asked a rules question 20 years ago, it would have been hard to imagine what that would lead to.

The member at Royal Colwood Golf Club on Vancouver Island may modestly say that his rise to the upper echelons of Canadian golf may be about being in the “right place at the right time,” but, other than the original incident that sparked his interest, chance really has had little to do with it.

It all started when Jackson was playing in the Colwood Amateur in 2001 and was unable to get a clear answer to a rules question.

As part of this year's Women's Golf Day celebration, British Columbia Golf is holding a 'Cloud Scramble' and you can win prizes by entering your own team. The Scramble format has proven to be a fun way to play and to have everyone get a chance to contribute to the team. 

There will be prizes drawn from the scorecard images entered by each team, thus the 'awards' are strictly based on participation. Have fun, it's called 'playing' Golf ????

Teams will receive clarification on the basics of the rules upon entering the event from Tyler McKay. See more details below.

During the annual SportBC awards held in March of this year, after a delay due to Covid-19 from 2020, the very first 'Delivering On Diversity' award was handed out by the Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture & Sport, the Honourable Minister Melanie Mark. 

The awards were held on a virtual basis and Minister Mark made the announcement to open the proceedings. The award recognizes a "Provincial, disability or multi-sport organization that has demonstrated a committment towards advancing accessibility and inclusion."

In celebration of Golf Canada's 50th anniversary they have created the 'most influential 50 moments' in Canadian golf history.

Vote to help create the top 10 moments which will be unveiled on Tuesday, June 8th during the RBC Hall of Fame Day presented by Nike Golf.

A Message From The Allied Golf Association - British Columbia

We want to thank everyone for their continued implementation of COVID-19 protection procedures that support the safe operation of golf in British Columbia and suggest increased vigilance on enforcing protocols may be required.

With the increase in COVID-19 cases in the province, so comes increased scrutiny for all potential sources, including golf, and the need for increased due diligence, such as is happening in the province toward the enforcement of non-essential travel.

The PHO determined that increased enforcement of non-essential travel restrictions in British Columbia was required. Last Friday, the previous advisories became orders and the government implemented additional measures to mitigate travel.

When she has a spare moment, which doesn’t happen often in her life, Christine Wong sometimes thinks about one final run at the LPGA Tour. But then she reflects on how happy she is with her life right now and wonders why she’d want to change a thing.

“I think for the next couple of years or so I will probably just keep doing what I have been doing,” Wong says. “I feel like I am in a really good place in my life right now and it’s kind of nice.”

Nice and busy. Wong, a two-time B.C. Women’s Amateur champion who is now nearly eight years removed from a successful collegiate golf career at San Diego State University, has a lot on her plate.

RICHMOND, BC (PGA of British Columbia) –- The PGA of BC regrets to share the news that Sean Richardson (The Harvest Golf Club) passed away Sunday at the age of 52.

One of the most accomplished coaches and instructors among the ranks of PGA of BC Professionals, Richardson had battled cancer for several years prior to his passing. He spent the entirety of his impressive career based at golf facilities in British Columbia.

With updates to travel restrictions and new enforcement measures being officially announced on April 23rd, the Allied Golf Association of BC will be working to clarify the information and will be providing resources to help BC's golf courses navigate the shifting landscape.

In brief, the new measures are aimed at reducing the rapid spread of variants of concern and are intended to abate the spread of COVID-19 by focusing on restricting the movement of people into and within the province.

British Columbia Golf and Pacific Sport - Fraser Valley are presenting a two-part seminar series entitled "Nurtrition for the Tournament Golfer," taking place Monday April 19th and Monday April 26th, both at 7pm.

The  sessions will be via Zoom with the link for each session being sent out prior to the scheduled date. The main speaker is Registered Dietitian Claudia Lemay with additional hosts Colin Lavers, Head Performance Coach, BC Golf and Nick Mueller, Kinesiologist, Strength and Conditioning, BC Golf.

Golf Canada will tee it up in 2021 to conduct national amateur championships and is working with public health authorities in host communities to finalize operational protocols so that the competitions may proceed safely. 

Following a 2020 season that saw the cancellation of all Golf Canada competitions due to the pandemic, the 2021 schedule will feature nine National Amateur Championships, eight NextGen Championships for junior-aged golfers, and several USGA qualifiers which will be hosted at member clubs across Canada, starting with the NextGen Pacific Championship at Bear Mountain G&CC in Victoria, BC on May 5th.

Sport BC celebrated the 54thAnnual Athlete of the Year Awards virtually on Thursday, March 25, 2021. The event was hosted by CBC’s Scott Russell recognizing the province’s best in amateur sport including athletes, coaches, teams, and officials for outstanding performances in their sport over the 2019 season.

Each finalist was nominated by their Provincial or Multi-Sport Organization, High School, College, or University. The Selection Committee, led by long-serving Chair Bernie Pascall, included a diverse group of highly experienced British Columbia sport leaders and media members.

Acushnet, the parent company of global golf brands Titleist and FootJoy, has demonstrated its commitment to creating a more inclusive culture within golf by becoming a signatory of The R&A’s Women in Golf Charter.

Recently, in celebrating International Women's Day, The R & A asked women working in golf - inside and outside of The R&A - to talk about their work and why having more women in the industry is essential for the future success of the sport.

British Columbia Golf joins The R&A in being committed to broadening the appeal of the sport for women and girls in all forms whether that is playing the sport or working within it. The Women in Golf Charter and #INVITEHer​ campaign aims to improve inclusivity of golf for women and girls.
