PNGA Senior & Super Senior Men’s Amateur Championships Being Held At Big Sky Golf Club

The 52nd Pacific Northwest Senior Men’s Amateur Championship and 7th Pacific Northwest Super Senior Men’s Amateur Championship are being held June 7-9 at Big Sky Golf Club in Pemberton, B.C.

The two championships are being held concurrently, and are conducted by the Pacific Northwest Golf Association (PNGA). The Senior Men’s Amateur includes men 55 years of age or older while the Super Senior Men’s Amateur includes men age 65 years or older.

The Senior Men’s Amateur will feature a great field of players including Tom Brandes of Bellevue who is looking for his third victory in five years after winning previously 2012 and ’13.

Also in the field are Bob Burton of Everett, Wash. who won the 2015 Washington State Senior Amateur; Sandy Harper of Nanaimo, B.C. who won the 2007 and 2011 Pacific Northwest Mid-Amateur, and was inducted into the BC Golf Hall of Fame in 2013; John Gallacher of Burnaby, B.C. who is the 2015 B.C. Senior Champion and Paul Houvener of Mill Creek, Wash. who finished second in last year’s championship.

The Super Senior Championship field features defending champion Ron Garland of Bozeman, Mont., who won last year by four shots over Gay Davis of Portland. Davis won the title in 2012, and is in the field again this year.

Also in the field are Chris Maletis of Portland, who won the title in 2014, and also is a three-time winner of the Senior Amateur (2007, 2009, 2010); Bruce Richards of Seattle, who was inducted into the Pacific Northwest Golf Hall of Fame in 2013; Gudmund Lindbjerg of Port Moody, B.C. the B.C. Senior Men's Champion from 2008-11 and 2 time B.C. Super-Senior winner in 2014,15; and Kirk Smith of Everett, Wash., who was the 2007 PNGA Men’s Player of the Year.

Past champions of the Senior Men’s Amateur include many members of the Pacific Northwest Golf Hall of Fame, including Carl Jonson, Kent Myers, Dr. John Harbottle, George Holland, Ken Forster and Erv Parent. Both Brandes and Maletis were inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2015 for their amateur golf accomplishments.

The 54-hole stroke-play competition will commence at Big Sky on Tuesday, June 7 at 7:30 a.m. Updates, including tee times, pairings, and live scoring for both championships, will be available daily at www.thepnga.org.

The Pacific Northwest Senior and Super Senior Men’s Amateur championships are two of 15 major, regional, amateur championships for men, women, juniors, and seniors conducted annually by the PNGA throughout the Northwest.
