Before pointing out the queen for the visitors, the beekeeper and breeder mutters, “I shouldn’t really be doing this.”

Pat Thompson used to play over 100 rounds of golf a year but now her games are few and far between.

That’s not to say she’s not on the course, now Thompson is giving those rounds back to the next generation of golfers, and she’s doing it for free.

The second edition of 2014 for the popular contest saw more than 600 golf fans tee it up with two participants making every right choice.

Sixteen year old Alex Francois of Burnaby, BC advanced to the Monday qualifier stage of the Canadian Open on Monday.  Francois was one of eight players who qualified, with 3 other BC residents - Adam Cornelson of Langley, Kevin Stinson of Mission and Ryan Williams of Vancouver playing at Marine Drive Golf Club.

Francois is well known in BC golf junior circles.  He captured the 2014 CN Future Links Pacific Championship and was the winner of the 2013 BC Juvenile Boys Champiionship, seven strokes ahead of the second place finisher.  His sister Sumie also won the 2013 Juvenile Girls event.

According to the US National Hole-in-one registry, the odds of the average golfer hitting a hole-in-one are 12,000 to one. If you’re a low-handicapper, your odds slightly increase to 5,000 to one. They state that the odds of a golfer making two holes-in-one in the same round are 67 million to one.

The odds change moderately depending on where you look, but needless to say, they weren’t in Dennis Swonnell’s favour last Thursday when he stepped onto the course at Bear Mountain Golf and Country Club.

But he beat them anyway.
